Prof. XING Xianran and Prof. WANG Dan Visit FJIRSM

At the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, Prof. XING Xianran from the University of Science and Technology, Beijing and Prof. WANG Dan from Institute of Process Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) on March 24, 2010. During their stay, Prof. XING delivered a seminar report entitled Negative thermal expansion and its regulation of perovskite compounds”, and Prof. WANG did a report entitled Controlled Synthesis of Nanostructural Materials and Their Enhanced Performance”. Both of the two professors carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM after their reports.

Prof. XING Xianran is now the director of Physical Chemistry Department at the University of Science and Technology, Beijing. Meanwhile, he is the winner of the Distinguished Youth Award of the National Natural Science Foundation (NNSF), the winner of Chang Jiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education. At present, Prof. XING is mainly engaged in researches on the preparation and crystal structure characterization of negative thermal expansion materials and novel perovskite-type compounds, physical chemistry in the process of novel functional materials and rare earth materials, and phase changes and reaction mechanism in metallurgical process. So far Prof. XING has won three scientific awards at state and provincial level, published more than 100 research papers on some famous scientific journals including J. Am. Chem. Soc, Chem. Mater, Inor. Chem, Appl. Phys. Lett, Metal. Mater. Trans. B, and succeeded in getting 7 authorized National Invention Patents.

Prof. WANG Dan, a doctoral supervisor and research professor at Institute of Process Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the winner of Talents Project. Prof. WANG’s research interests focus on the design and development of advanced inorganic functional materials. Prof. WANG won the outstanding oral presentation award at the 42nd Symposium on Basic Sciences and 2004’ World Seminar of Young Scholars, and 2005’ Genji Kurata Award by Japan Ceramic Society. So far he has published more than 100 scientific research papers, and won the third award for scientific and technological progress of Beijing in the year of 2006.
