Prof. SHI Zhangjie and Prof. LIU Lei Visit FJIRSM

At the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, Prof. SHI Zhangjie from Beijing University and Prof. LIU Lei from Qinghua University, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) on June 3, 2010. During their stay, Prof. SHI delivered a seminar report entitled “Recent Advances on C-O Bond Activation” and Prof. LIU did a report entitled “Advances in synthetic bioorganic chemistry”, and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM.

Prof. SHI Zhangjie is now working in the College of Chemistry and Molecular Science, Beijing University. Meanwhile, he is the winner of the Distinguished Youth Award of the National Natural Science Foundation (NNSF). At present, Prof. SHI is mainly engaged in researches on the activation of the transition metal catalyzed C-H and C-O bonds. So far Prof. SHI has published more than 20 research papers on some famous scientific journals such as J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., and he got the Synlett/Synthesis Journal Award in 2006 and the Chemistry Award for the Youth from the Chinese Chemistry Society, the Excellent Professor Award by China-America Professor Association (CAPA) and the Chemistry Award for the Youth by CCS-John Wiley in 2008. In 2009, he was honored the “New Star of Science and Technology in Beijing”.

Prof. LIU Lei is a full-time professor in the Chemistry Department of Qinghua University and a part-time professor in the Science and Technology University of China. His research interests are bioorganic chemistry and physical organic chemistry. Until now he has published more than 100 research papers on some famous scientific journals including J.Am.Chem.Soc., Angew.Chem., and Chem.. Review.
