Prof. Arthur Mar from University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) at the invitation of the Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials Chemistry and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on February 21st, 2011. During his stay, Prof. Mar delivered a seminar report entitled “Metals in Negative Oxidation States” and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM.

Now Prof. Arthur Mar is a world-known professor in solid state chemistry working in the University of Alberta, Canada, and he is also one of the editors for the journals including Acta Crystallographica E，Chemistry of Materials，Journal of Solid State Chemistry. For quite a long time, Prof. Mar has been mainly engaged in researches on inorganic solid state chemistry, Zintl phases, intermetallic compounds and particularly the15 group element chemistry and computational chemistry. So far Prof. Mar has published 127 research papers on some famous scientific journals including Angew. Chem and JACS. He has been invited to do a total of 59 oral representations at some influential international conferences in the relevant research fields.
