  Dr. Fanglin (Frank) Chen is the Associate Department Chair, Director for Undergraduate Studies, and a full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina, USA. Prior to joining USC in Fall 2007, he has spent six years as Senior Staff Engineer working on solid oxide fuel cell development at United Technologies Research Center. Dr. Chen holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Anhui University, a M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Science and Technology of China, and a Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Chen has received several recognitions including the Outstanding Achievement Award from United Technology Research Center in 2005, Summer Faculty Fellow from the US Air Force Research Laboratory in 2009 and in 2010, the Young Investigator Award from USC in 2010, the Governor’s Young Scientist Award from the State of South Carolina in 2013, the Research Achievement Award from USC in 2016, and Summer Faculty Fellow from NASA Glenn Research Center in 2022. Dr. Chen currently serves as an Associate Editor for International Journal of Hydrogen Energy and Chief Editor for Frontiers in Energy Research-Fuel Cells, Electrolyzers and Membrane Reactors. He has authored over 240 peer-reviewed journal publications and holds 12 US patents.
